Hello again. Thank you for taking a moment to read this page, as it details a bit about how this site has come together. First off, I will say that the majority of the song lyrics that I have here came from Mr. Dylan's Highway 61 cd-rom. The files had to be cleaned up a bit, but this is their origin. A number of other sources have contributed to the content of my page, including good-hearted Dylanophiles whom have sent me tid-bits from time to time. And yes, I've even done a bit of the dirty work myself. A number of people have written and complained saying that "Zim didn't write 'Broke Down Engine'! (or some such tune) Why do you have that song credited to him? Change it!", etc. To all of you I say: The error is not on my behalf! For reasons unbeknownst to me, Bob has published many songs under his own name that were heretofore regarded as 'Traditional', or in fact written by someone long since gone. This is fact. I, however, do not think it to be my place to change his copyrights in the name of being historically accurate (in fact, I'm quite sure that that wouldn't be lawful). It's a matter of record, no matter how much you or I may disapprove of it, that Bob published these songs the way he did. Thus, this is what my web page reflects. Take a peek at the Highway 61 cd-rom and you'll see that what I am saying is true. I understand why some of you object to inaccuracies such as these. But perhaps there are reasons unknown to us that may account for these things. Who knows?!? While on the subject of the accuracy of the lyrics posted at The Book of Bob, there is one more thing I should address: Not all of the lyrics represented here are exactly, word-for-word, what you'll hear on the actual song. In other words, not all of Bob's published & copyrighted lyrics jive with what he actually recorded in the studio. If you're a student of Bob, you know that while in the recording studio (or on stage, for that matter), he often would improvise a word, phrase, stanza, song, album, etc. So keep this in mind when you read something here that doesn't quite match up with what you hear on your music CD. What he recorded isn't necessarily the same as what he published. If you're interested in possessing a comprehensive Dylan lyric resource, I would suggest the aforementioned Highway 61 CD, or, my favorite, the Bob Dylan's Lyrics 1962-1985 hard cover book (Publisher: Alfred A. Knopf & Random House, Inc.). Thanks for hearing me out.
Happiness.
